JERA’s decarbonisation roadmap to forge a clean-energy future

Following its launch at COP28 UAE in December 2023, the pioneering Global African Hydrogen Summit, slated for Windhoek, Namibia on 3 - 5 September 2024, is the first and only platform of its kind aimed at driving critical investments into bankable African green energy projects, attracting the attention of heads of state, ministers and CEOs worldwide.

Latin America boasts abundant geothermal energy resources, offering a promising avenue for clean energy production, decarbonisation of industrial processes and bolstering energy security. Despite these favorable conditions, only a fraction of its potential has been harnessed, with a mere 2 gigawatts electrical (GWe) currently utilized out of a total potential of 33 GWe, according to a new Rystad Energy report. The bulk of this utilisation comes from Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador, which collectively account for about 75% of the existing capacity.

Last year was the best yet for new wind energy progress as the worldwide wind industry installed a record 117GW of fresh capacity. That was the headline find of Global Wind Report 2024, released by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) earlier this week.
